Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, how we use it, and the rights you have in relation to it. It applies to shadesharaka.com and to any enquiry or correspondence submitted to us through the site. Questions about this policy may be directed to info@shadesharaka.com.

Who we are

This website (shadesharaka.com) is operated by Shadé Sharaka (“Shadé Sharaka”, “we”, “us” or “our”), who is also the data controller responsible for the personal information collected through this site.

We can be contacted at info@shadesharaka.com.

The information we collect

Information you provide directly:

  • When you use the enquiry form: your name, email address, and any information you include in your message.

  • When you sign up for our mailing list: your name and email address.

  • When you email us to arrange a call: your name, email address, and any information you include in your message.

  • If we begin working together: any further information you provide to us.

Information collected automatically:

  • We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which measures site visits without cookies and without tracking you across other websites. It does not build a profile of you.

  • Our hosting providers maintain standard server logs (for example, IP address and browser type) for the purpose of security and reliability.

How we use your information, and our lawful basis

Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for using your personal information. We rely on the following.

Where you contact us through the enquiry form or by email, we use your information to respond to you and to discuss whether and how we might work together. Our basis for this is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries about our work and, where relevant, taking steps at your request prior to entering into a contract.

Where you sign up for our mailing list, we use your name and email address to send occasional emails about our work, where you have opted in. Our basis for this is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.

Where you become a client, we use your information to manage and deliver the work agreed between us. Our basis for this is performance of our contract with you.

We retain records of our dealings for tax and accounting purposes, where our basis is compliance with a legal obligation, and we process limited technical information to maintain the security and operation of the website, where our basis is our legitimate interest in operating the site safely.

Email and unsubscribing

Marketing emails are sent through Substack (Substack Inc.), whose servers are located in the United States; transfers are safeguarded as described under Transfers outside the UK. We send marketing emails only where you have opted in, and every email contains an unsubscribe link. You may withdraw your consent and unsubscribe at any time.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for the marketing purposes of any third party. We use a limited number of providers who process information on our behalf under contract:

  • Framer and Cloudflare — to host and serve the website.

  • Substack (Substack Inc.) — to administer the mailing list and send emails.

  • Framer — to receive enquiries submitted through the form.

  • Our accountant, and HMRC, where required by law.

We may also disclose information where required to do so by law (for example, under a court order).

Transfers outside the UK

We hold data within the UK or EU where possible. Where a provider transfers personal data outside the UK, we rely on safeguards approved under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision, so that your information remains protected.

How long we keep your information

  • Enquiries that do not result in work: up to 12 months, after which they are deleted.

  • Mailing list: until you unsubscribe.

  • Client records: for 6 years following the end of our work, in order to meet tax and legal requirements.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to request that we provide a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correct information that is inaccurate, delete your information, restrict or object to our use of it, provide it in a portable format, and cease processing based on consent where you withdraw that consent (this does not affect processing carried out before withdrawal).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@shadesharaka.com. We will respond within one month.

If you consider that we have not handled your personal information in accordance with the law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113). You may also raise the matter with us directly at info@shadesharaka.com.

Cookies

This site is designed to operate using only strictly necessary cookies. It does not use advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies.

Strictly necessary cookies. Our hosting and security providers (Framer and Cloudflare) may set a small number of cookies that are essential to serve the site, maintain its security, and protect against malicious traffic. These cookies do not identify you for marketing purposes and cannot be disabled, as the site relies on them to function.

Analytics — no cookies. We measure site visits using Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless. It does not store cookies on your device, does not track you across other websites, and does not build a profile of you.

No advertising or tracking cookies. We do not use cookies for advertising, retargeting, or third-party tracking.

Functional local storage. If you dismiss the newsletter invitation shown on this site, we store a single value in your browser’s local storage so that the invitation is not shown to you again. This value contains no personal information and is not transmitted to us or to any third party.

Embedded content. The newsletter signup form on this site is provided by Substack and loads within a frame served from substack.com. Substack may set cookies within that frame when you interact with it; these are governed by Substack’s own privacy policy.

Because this site uses only strictly necessary cookies, no cookie consent banner is required under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). Should non-essential cookies be introduced in future, consent will be obtained beforehand and this policy updated.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of the site from functioning.

Children

This website and our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18.

Security

We maintain appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission over the internet is entirely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised date.
